At first, Ilana and Jeremy were just two people crossing paths at the right place, long before the right time.

They first met in February 2015, when a shared commitment to faith brought them together at a disability inclusion and awareness Shabbat during a shabbaton. Ilana was shy and reserved, needing time to feel comfortable meeting new people, while Jeremy was deeply observant in his religious practice. Neither expected anything more than a brief introduction, though in the years to come it would grow into so much more.

It wasn’t until after Saturday evening services that Ilana felt ready to introduce herself. It was a small moment, but one that stayed with them both long after the weekend ended. Soon after, life took them in different directions. Over the years that followed, they each faced challenges and periods of personal growth.

When they reconnected in early 2021, the spark they remembered was still there, but this time it was accompanied by maturity and purpose. Ilana reached out with honesty and courage, unsure of where the conversation might lead. Jeremy responded, and what began as a simple exchange gradually unfolded into ongoing conversations marked by openness, reflection, and care.

By the fall of 2023, Ilana relocated, and by January 2024, their journey reached a new milestone when they became engaged. This marked a joyful affirmation of everything they had grown into together and the future they were ready to build.

Not long before, a defining moment had deepened Ilana’s certainty. One summer day while swimming, she experienced a sudden medical episode. Jeremy immediately recognized the signs and helped her safely out of the pool. In that moment, Ilana felt overwhelming gratitude and clarity, believing it was a sign from God that they were meant to be together.

Soon after, Ilana and Jeremy were married, surrounded by love, faith, and community. As they begin their life as husband and wife, they look ahead with excitement to their honeymoon this spring.

Their shared faith continues to guide them. During a trip to Israel over Passover, Jeremy fulfilled a promise to Ilana by accompanying her to visit the grave of her childhood rabbi in Jerusalem. Standing side by side and reciting psalms in unison, they reflected not only on remembrance, but on the depth of their connection and the journey that brought them there.
