Opening Doors to Specialized Care: Makom Launches New Clinic for Individuals with IDD
October 1, 2025

For far too long, individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) have faced significant barriers in accessing quality healthcare.
From a lack of providers trained in IDD care, to fragmented services scattered across different locations, families and individuals often find themselves navigating a system that was never designed with their needs in mind. This gap leads to delayed care, unmet health needs, and preventable challenges that compromise both health and quality of life.
Makom has long been committed to changing that reality. With more than 40 years of experience supporting individuals with IDD, we are proud to announce the opening of our new Clinical Services department and fully equipped clinic. The clinic represents a major step forward in creating an integrated, person-centered healthcare delivery model tailored to the unique needs of people with IDD.
At our new clinic, individuals will have access to a comprehensive range of services under one roof, including:
· Occupational Therapy (OT) – supporting independence in daily living skills.
· Physical Therapy (PT) – promoting mobility, strength, and injury prevention.
· Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) – enhancing communication and swallowing function.
· Behavioral Health – addressing emotional well-being and mental health with sensitivity and expertise.
· Nutrition Support – creating individualized diet plans that promote health and prevent complications.
· Nursing Services – ensuring safe, consistent, and compassionate medical support.
This interdisciplinary model means that care is not only accessible, but coordinated—allowing clinicians to work together to develop holistic treatment plans that honor each person’s voice, needs, and aspirations.
The launch of Makom’s clinic is more than the addition of services; it is a solution to a long-standing healthcare crisis for people with IDD. By offering specialized, integrated, and compassionate care, Makom is redefining what it means for this population to receive the healthcare they deserve.
We invite our community partners, families, and supporters to join us in celebrating this milestone. Together, we can build a future where people with IDD are not left behind in the healthcare system but are fully supported to live healthier, more independent lives.
