Nutrition is the process by which our bodies receive and use food to develop, heal, and stay healthy. Nutrition explores the relationship between diet, health, disease prevention, and management. Nutrition creates accessible, enjoyable, culturally acceptable, and individualized approaches to healthy eating, that honors a person’s preferences, needs, and abilities.

Assessment: Comprehensive nutritional evaluation of the individual, medical history, and medications.

Meal Planning: Develop customized meal plans that meet individual needs, preferences, dietary restrictions, with consideration to age, developmental stage and communication abilities.

Education and Counseling: Provide on-going nutrition and counseling to individuals, their families/caregivers; addressing topics like food aversions, sensory sensitivities, swallow difficulties and chronic health conditions like obesity, diabetes, kidney disease and gastrointestinal issues.

Food Safety and Hygiene: Ensure safe and hygienic sanitation practices are in place ensuring healthy environments for individuals with IDD.

Collaboration: Works closely with speech, occupational and physical therapists, behavior analysts, nurses, physicians, and direct support professionals to ensure a coordinated, person-centered approach to care
