Physical Therapy
Physical therapy (PT) focuses on improving and restoring the function of the body, thereby optimizing the individual’s intrinsic ability to perform actions, and then improving the individual’s ability to interact with the environment. Moreover, physical therapy aims to promote and maintain mobility and contribute to disease prevention. Physical therapists use various interventions to address an individual’s deficits. Interventions include exercise, manual therapy, soft tissue massage, functional training, neuromuscular re-education, and caregiver and patient education. Here at Makom, physical therapists are specifically trained in Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) and have undergone comprehensive training in IDD patient handling.
